PLAYIN' ENGLISH impresses
at Amityville's The Warehouse
September 8, 2022
With two exciting sets of music drawn from the extensive catalogs of SQUEEZE, JOE JACKSON and ELVIS COSTELLO, Playin' English entertained a hearty crowd of 150 on an early evening at The Warehouse, quickly becoming the staple of live music on Long Island. Opening with "Take Me I'm Yours" the band quickly won over the crowd with the pulsing Middle Eastern flavored rock tune. A highlight of the evening was guest appearance by Colleen Fahrquar, seasoned tenor sax player who has played with the likes of Wondrous Stories and Meat Loaf tribute All Revved Up. Colleen joined Sam in PE's rendition of Joe Jackson's "You Can't Get What You Want", Jackson's departure from the rock/pop trio sound that put his music on the map. Plenty of those tunes were offered up by the band as well as Squeeze favorites "Tempted" and "Black Coffee in Bed."

We knew our following was growing, but we were quite surprised when we were contacted through our website by Linda, a fan from Tel Aviv, Israel! Fortunately our Finlyy's gig coincided with her stateside trip and Linda and a bunch of her friends came down and enjoyed our 2 sets at the club.
PLAYIN' ENGLISH wows the crowd
at Shell Creek Park
July 13, 2022
It was a gorgeous, balmy night overlooking the tranquil waters of Shell Creek in Island Park, NY. As the full moon was rising in the east and a beautiful sunset was emerging in the west, Playin' English took to the stage with their unique brand of music celebrating the catchy pop music of SQUEEZE, JOE JACKSON and ELVIS COSTELLO. The adoring crowd of 300 danced, sang and frequently shouted praises to the band of five musicians as they ran through their hour and a half set peppered with well known radio classics such as "Tempted", "Is She Really Going Out With Him?", and "Black Coffee in Bed", among many other favorites. The Hempstead Arts Council in attendance immediately resolved that Playin' English would be a mainstay on their stages for many outdoor concerts to come!

PLAYIN' ENGLISH plays debut gig at
KJ Farrell's
June 4, 2021
Long Island's newest tribute band sensation PLAYIN' ENGLISH played their first live gig on Friday, June 4, 2021. It took place at the popular Long Island nightspot KJ Farrell's in Bellmore. The five piece band played two sets of exciting music featuring popular tunes from the band Squeeze and Joe Jackson, with a couple of Elvis Costello and Crowded House tunes mixed in. The capacity crowd was boisterous most of the evening, calling for encores resulting in the band stepping outside their repertoire to play a couple of tunes we will refrain from naming here.
Darren Gallagher wowed the crowd with some blistering solos while Sam Powell crooned many Squeeze tunes to reactions such as "Wow! He sounds just like Glenn Tillbrook!" Even though he doesn't quite. With an exceptional rhythm section behind them Sam and Darren led the way in entertaining the crowd for 2+ hours.
